The 2019/2020 tournament season kicked off this year at the ESC with the season opener last weekend.
We had just under 60 participants that playing Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Out of town players arrived from all over Alberta including Medicine Hat, Calgary, and the always fun contingent from Grand Prairie.
It was hard to tell who was who in the Men’s A final with both Sumayr and Todd wearing blue tops with black shorts, but after a spirited match, Todd Christianson came out on top as the champion with Sumayr Sekhon finishing second. Men’s B was won by Jason Braun with Ryan Johnson as the runner-up. Our Men’s C champion was Sean Steadman with Talha Sajjad finishing second. The men’s D winner was Rory Kucy and the runner up was Steve Ampleman. Sue McCoy was our Women’s B champion with Susan Needham finishing as runner-up. The women’s D champion was Romina Rodriguez and Tanya Mundy coming second.
Congratulations to all the participants and we hope to see you out for the ESC Open later this year!
Thank you so much to all the volunteers who came to clean the courts on Wednesday including Brad Salter, Akiyah Clements, Marc Moreau, Hanna Hay, Amit Joseph, Arun Joseph, Aya Okamoto, Alvaro Rodriguez, Romina Rodriguez, Ian Adatia, Ryan Johnson and Geoff MacNeil. Special thanks to Anthony and Heather Looy who coordinated the volunteers and Chelsea who did double duty cleaning while keeping the front desk functional at the same time. We had a draw for a couple grips for all our volunteers with Ryan and Hannah being the happy winners.
Thank you also to Jeff for running a great tournament as always, and to Sandra and Abdul for running things from the front desk.
