Friday September 7th we will be having an informal fundraiser for Adaea Smart. Adaea is the niece of ESC member Rainbow Williams, who has to be relocated to Vancouver to battle a reoccurrence of Leukemia. We will be collecting voluntary donations in conjunction with our Drop-in and AGM meeting. A $5 donation would be greatly appreciated by Adaea’s family.
The Edmonton Squash Club strives to be more than a sports club. We hope to be a community that supports one another, and we are always happy to help out our members.

For those of you who may not know, my niece has been in a battle with Leukemia for almost a year now. Over the summer we were blessed with a discharge from the hospital. Adaea Smart was able to return home and play, run and jump like a normal child. Not tied to chemotherapy machines, nurses, or the entire hospital for that matter. My sister Liberty, her husband Aaron and their son Alden were over the moon.
Unfortunately late last week after some “mother’s intuition,” she was tested and it was determined that her cancer had returned. She was whisked away in an air ambulance from Victoria to Vancouver, BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) immediately after conclusive tests. My sister and family typically reside in Victoria and are now living between the Ronald Mcdonald house and the hospital. Not only has this created some logistical challenges for them, it has also made life very uncertain, expensive and very very worrisome.
During this round of treatment, as with the last, I have taken it upon myself to work with our friends and family to soften this rough and uncomfortable journey. In the beginning, we were flooded with toys, art supplies and other gifts that really did take Adaea’s mind off the reality of where she was and what she was going through. Unfortunately, with this relapse things have changed. Treatment is intensified, a bone marrow transplant is in the future and life for their family is truly unknown.
So now we are really digging in and fundraising to allow my sister and family to decide what is best for Adaea. Creating goals for taking medicine, too many “needle pricks,” examinations etc. So I’m reaching out to the friends and families of the ESC to see what we can do to offer this incredible family, my sister’s family, some encouragement, financial support and best wishes.
Thank you all for your support.
