Momo & Romina Win Gold & Silver At the Sandhills Manufacturing Canadian Junior Squash Championships

It was an awesome week of squash at the Royal Glenora and Edmonton Squash Club from April 11-14th.

The ESC had a strong contingent participating, including Isaac El Hayek & Amit Joseph in Boys U-17, Hanna Hay and Antonella Rodriguez in Girls U-15, Mohamed Elserafy in Boys U-11 and Romina Rodriguez in Girls U-11.

After all the dust had settled, the ESC can now claim their first ever National Junior Champion with Momo running the gauntlet and avenging his Alberta Junior Closed Championship loss with a convincing 3-0 win in the finals. Congrats to Momo! You can watch his match in its entirety below.

Romina also had a fantastic tournament winning the silver medal in her division. Amazing!

A huge thank you to the Junior Coaching staff this year including Ibrahim, Abdul, Subhan, & Molli who guided our juniors to all the tournaments leading up to Nationals this year. Thank you to Heather Sanregret and Rainbow Williams who lead our Junior Committee and keep the ship steering in the right direction. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help clean the courts and guide all the juniors and the parents at the ESC including Pierre Boucher, Jeff McCurdy, Tony McClellan, Beth Marple, Syd Marple, Brad Magor, John Fletcher, Larry Morrison, Stan Pettinen, Joe Mann, Wendy Cheung, Ian Adatia, Marc Moreau and Ryan Gad Gawad. And finally, thank you to the tournament organizing committee over at the RG for putting on such a fine tournament.

Also, special shoutout to all the members who have hit with Momo, Romina and all the juniors over the years at drop-ins and contributed to the send Momo to the British Open fund. Your efforts have been pivotal to their development and we can’t wait to see what our juniors have in store for us in the years to come.
