Junior Event Day on Sunday, Summer Plans, and the Steam Room is Back

Club News

Summer Plans

We’re down to the last week and a half of the Interclub regular season. Good luck to all the teams jostling for playoff position! Membership fees for Interclub members will also be adjusted on May 1 to reflect that the $30 surcharge will not apply from May until the end of September. We understand that many of you are looking forward to golf season, and may be wondering how often you will be playing squash over the summer, but we think that there are many good reasons to keep your membership active. Benefits of remaining an Edmonton Squash Club member over the coming months include:

-Eligibility for the Edmonton Squash Club championships in May
-50% discount on your summer league fees
-Reduced rates on lessons and programs
-Unlimited access to drop-in
-Unlimited access to the steam room
-No re-registration fees in October

Maintaining your membership allows us to continue to make positive additions to the club, and next on our wish list is getting some weights and fitness equipment into the front room. You can move up and down freely from the premium to the basic membership – we just ask that you give us 30 days notice.

Junior Squash Day

The Edmonton squash club is proud to be hosting the fifth Edmonton junior squash day this coming Sunday, April 10. We will have approximately 50 Junior athletes of all ages and abilities participating. This is a crucial initiative organized by Julie Multamaki to grow junior squash in Edmonton. Please note that all of the courts at the ESC are booked on Sunday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM including the doubles court. If you were planning on playing this weekend please make the necessary adjustments.

Men’s Steam Room

Our builder believes that they have found and repaired the source of the steam room leak, and we expect to have the steam room operating again as of this today. Please enjoy!

Doubles Netting

For safety reasons we have installed some netting above the back glass of the doubles squash court. Now you can enjoy your after-game refreshments and watch the doubles in peace.

Foosball Table

The folks at ThinkTel have generously provided the club with a foosball table for your enjoyment. Feel free to show off all your skills and trick shots (uniforms not required).

ESC Club Pro Wins at Nationals

The Canadian doubles squash championships were held last weekend in Calgary, and Edmontonians Julie Mulamaki (ESC Club Pro) and Sarah MacNeil won the Women’s doubles 45+ category! ESC member Diana Shaw also had a great tournament, teaming up with Mariette Rabacal to win the Women’s 50+ consolation finals.

Jeff on Vacation

Jeff will be away from the club from April 14th-21st, but he will be available via email intermittently throughout the week.

PSA World Tour Results

Mohamed El Shorbagy and Nour El Sherbini captured the British open last week. In doing so El Shorbagy broke the all-time ranking points record for the men, and El Sherbini hit a career high ranking at world #2. Probably the most exciting match of the tournament was between Rami Ashour and Greg Gaultier in the semi-finals, and you can watch the 18 minute game 2 from that tilt for free on PSA Live’s youtube channel.

The next big PSA tour event will be in Switzerland at the Grasshopper Cup starting April 13th.

Calgary’s Andrew Schnell is having a fantastic 2016 so far, with his latest victory in Sacramento being his 3rd PSA title in the past 6 weeks. Well done Andrew!
