2019 Canadian National Women’s Team Championships: Feb 15-17

We are incredibly pleased to announce that our Edmonton Squash Club will be hosting the 2019 Canadian Nation Women’s Team Championships this February 15-17. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our club at the national level, and we encourage all our members to be ambassadors to our guests of our province, city and club.

This is a high-quality field including PSA level players such as Holly Naughton, Samantha Cornett, Nicki Todd and Daniel Letourneau and will have the best of Canadian Women’s squash on offer. The top 3 women in each province will participate in a round robin and playoffs to determine which province/territory will reign supreme in women’s squash.

Tournament Participant Dinner @ 6pm (Players and invited guests only)
Sunday February 17 
Matches: 10am-2pm
Medal Presentation immediately after matches are finished

The 2018 championships, held in Windsor, crowned Ontario as the champions and Alberta as the runner-up. Video of the two teams squaring off can be seen below.

Volunteer Positions

As you might imagine, running this event will require a lot of volunteer help, and we are calling on our members and the Edmonton Squash community to help make this high profile event a success. We are looking for volunteers for the following positions:

  • Shuttle drivers
  • Club Ambassadors
  • Registration/Control Desk
  • Social Planning (Friday Night, Saturday Breakfast, Saturday Lunch, Saturday Banquet)

We have a small group of committed volunteers already including Doug Kirillo, Caroline de Vries, John de Vries and Akiyah Clements, with Jeff Williams as the head of the Tournament Committee and Heather Sanregret at the head of the Volunteer Committee.

The will be a meeting for volunteers that sign up on Wednesday, January 9th at 6 PM at the Edmonton Squash Club.

The schedule for the event is as follows:

Feb 14: Players arrive in Edmonton and come to the ESC to have access to the courts prior to the tournament.

Feb 15: The tournament begins with some matches and a social event in the evening

Feb 16: The tournament continues, with continental breakfast and a lunch break provided at the ESC, and a banquet dinner at a location TBD

Feb 17: The tournament ends around 1 PM, with an awards ceremony to follow.
